Irrigation System for a community

DSC02186

Project Moz have partnered with the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) to plan and install an irrigation system for a community in Matola. The project, with is due for completion by the end of 2012, will provide a community with a well and irrigation system for use by over 100 locals inhabitants. The irrigation system will allow the community to farm crops on their land in an efficient and sustainable manner, providing them with an opportunity to sell food and provide an income.

Money for this project will go towards installing the well, purchasing the irrigation equipment and ensuring the community receive the training they need to maintain the system.

Food parcels for families

An increasing number of mothers are approaching the babyhouse asking for food parcels to feed their children. Project Moz are keen to support donations of food parcels to families, as often the reason babies and children are abandoned is due simply to the inability to provide for their basic needs.

By supporting parents who have very little with the provision of food parcels we hope to give hope and a solution to those who may otherwise feel incapable of continuing to care for their own children.

If you think you would like to support this project, or know someone who would, please email us.

'Casa Gemma'

This project has been created in loving memory of Gemma Wilkes, a Project Moz supporter who sponsored Ricardo. She is a greatly missed daughter, sister and friend.

The funds from this project will be used to build a house where approximately 15 of the children from All Nations will be able to live, in a permanent family home, offering them a secure base to spend their childhood and return to as adults.

The land, already purchased, will also be used to develop community projects that will serve the local people.

Masana and Kunhymela House

Ian and kids

Masana is a day center for boys living on the streets of Maputo, Mozambique. They provide breakfast and lunch, a place to shower and clothes washing facilities, basic education and life lessons. Masana's vision is to see the boys off the streets and reunited with their families, and they work with the boys and their families to realise this whenever possible, continuing to work with the families after the reintegration.

The Kunhymela House is a project based on the same site as Masana, that gives street kids a safe home to make the transition from the street life to their home communities. It provides short term accommodation where they are able to begin the adjustment from life on the street to life where boundaries and structure exist. The Kunhymela House also helps teach the boys the skills they need to start a new business or return to education when they go home.

The Football Project

This project supports a football team (named Ferroviario) made up of young local teenagers. When these boys are not in school, they love to train with their team and play matches. For many of these boys, their part in this football team provides them with a sense of achievement, belonging and family that they do not receive elsewhere. These boys are passionate about playing football and will walk for miles, on empty stomachs to come and train for several hours.

Through this project we want to be able to provide meals for the boys when they arrive at their training sessions and footballs that allow them to practise their skills. We also hope to be able to gain corporate sponsorship that will allow us to purchase proper football boots and footballs for this team and others in the community. If you know of anyone who may be able to help with this, please get in touch!
