Helping to make a world of difference

Aninha was born on the 12th of August 2003 and is the oldest child in the house. Her mum abandoned her and her father denies she is his daughter. She was left to live by herself, only able to eat if the neighbours had spare food to give her. One night the chief of the area found her walking through the streets of the village crying, and decided to take her to the babyhouse. She arrived wearing her Father’s underwear and having had nothing to eat for four days. Her teeth have suffered due to this sort of malnourishment.

When Angela (a younger little girl) arrived Aninha declared herself as mother to her, carrying her in a Capulana on her back and sharing her bed with her.

She is a joyful, helpful and very caring little girl who always wants to help out with the younger children. She was the first of the children at the babyhouse to start formal schooling in January 2009.
